You’ve planned your trips to warmer places, sent your RSVPs to 15 upcoming weddings, and agreed to go to a glittery day event with your friends.
It’s fun to be outside in the summer, but it can be expensive. It’s more important than ever to eat well-balanced food that you can get at stores for a low price. You now know what good foods you can get at Asda and Tesco. Whose turn is it to be the driver? Healthy food at Morrisons.
1. Nuts
Nuts are high in protein, which helps you feel full longer. At just under a pound, these are a great deal. Along with vitamin E, which helps keep skin cells healthy, they have a lot of B vitamins, which are needed to make energy.
- One brand of monkey nuts from Morrisons
Total: 81p
2. Bread
“The protein content of this wholemeal bread is great.” Due to the addition of pea protein during baking, each slice has 4.9g of protein, meaning that your morning PB on toast will keep you going for a little longer.

3. Fish v
This wholemeal bread is great because it has protein in it. The cooks added pea protein during the baking process, giving each slice 4.9g of protein. This means that your PB on toast in the morning will keep you going for a little longer.
- Pate de salmon
- Strips of mackerel
Total: £2.80
4. Pulses
A fun fact is that beans are a very low-cost way to eat more foods that are high in probiotics. They also have a lot of folate, a B vitamin that is especially important for women who want to get pregnant or have children because it helps make red blood cells and keeps kids from being born with spinal cord defects.
Also, they have a lot of iron, which is important for carrying oxygen and keeping your energy up, as well as zinc, which helps cells grow, the immune system work, and wounds heal. “All round!”
– Green split peas
– Chickpeas
– Kidney beans
– Garden peas
– Glorious! Goan tomato and lentil soup
Total: £3.16
5. Fruits
There is a lot of vitamin C in strawberries, which helps your immune system work better. Apples also have prebiotics, which feed the good bugs in your gut. They make great snacks.
– Wonky strawberries
– Little kitchen apples
Total: £2.00
6. Vegetables
“For summer, I’d choose mostly salad vegetables that are in season.”
During the warmer months, these are better for you because they have more water. Also, eating a variety of colored vegetables, like yellow peppers, orange carrots, and red tomatoes, will help you stay hydrated.
When you eat a rainbow of veggies, the different colors show off different plant chemicals that are good for your gut health in addition to their own health benefits.
The odd range in Morrisons is one of my favorites. In order to cut down on food waste and encourage healthier eating at a lower cost, they have lowered the prices of all the “imperfect” fruit.
– Cucumber
– Broccoli
– Fennel
– Salad peppers
– Spinach
– Wonky carrots
– Tomatoes Olives in brine (technically a fruit, but let us live)
Total: £6.73
7. Vegetarian protein
“These sausages are made from soy, which has a lot of protein.” The 16.4g of protein in one helping of McCartney sausages has been shown to help you feel full for longer.
“The cauliflower and chickpea bites may not have as much protein, but they’re full of a ton of spices that are good for your immune system, have 6.4g of fiber per serving, and help protect healthy gut bacteria.”
Though it may seem unlikely, plain Greek yogurt is a great way to get extra protein if you don’t eat meat. For a healthy meal, top it with nut butter and berries. You can also use it to cool down a curry for dinner.
– Linda McCartney vegetarian sausages
– Gosh cauliflower bites
– Greek yoghurt
Total: £4.00
8. Meat
As we already said, protein is great for keeping you full and helping your muscles heal. You can add these handy tiny filets to salads and stir fries.
– Mini chicken fillets
Total: £2.10
9. Chocolate
These chocolates are great because they don’t have as much sugar as other dark chocolates on the market. They won’t make your blood sugar go up. They don’t have any extra sugar and are full of magnesium, which is important for nerve and muscle function.
“It also has a lot of polyphenols, which are good for your heart.”
– Chocologic buttons
Total: £2.00
10. Store cupboard essentials
Watch out for mueslis and granolas that have extra sugars added to them. This one from Morrisons, on the other hand, doesn’t have any extra sugars added and has a lot less sugar than other cereals on the market. Omega-3 fatty acids, which can help lower cholesterol, can be found in oats.
“Nut milk is very popular right now, but this isn’t your normal almond milk.” Hemp seed milk is a great option for people who are allergic to nuts and a good source of omega-3, which is important for brain health.
– Quaker oats muesli
– Hemp seed milk
Total: £3.92
